The Author of The Outsiders S.E Hinton

The Author of The Outsiders is S.E Hinton or Susan Eloise Hinton and was born 1948 on July 22nd and is now currently 65 years of age and lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma and writes young adult novels, children's books and screenplays.

She began writing in her teenage years where it led to her publishing her first and most popular book, The Outsiders which was set around the 1960's and is placed in Oklahoma. She was influenced writing this book by to the two gangs of her school who used to fight a lot which were called the Greasers and the Socs. Her aim was to place a point of view perspective from the Greasers to sympathise with them and to show what their lives consisted of. The book got published in 1967 whilst in University of Tulsa. It has now sold over 14 million copies. The money at the time helped her to pay for college fees and continue to write.

The reason she chose to have her initials placed on the book rather than her full name is because she didn't want people to judge her especially most male book reviewers so she used her initials to make the author herself more private and hidden and not lose what she achieved and for people to just judge her as a female author writing about male gang crime.

Afterwards she continued to write many other books and sticked with her initials so she'd keep her author life more private to readers and separated that with her personal public life.
