Here's another example of an iBook I researched which is to do with Science and Physics, Unit 3.
Fig 1
(See Fig 1) The main page is slightly dull and boring and isn't too visually engaging or attractive. The image itself is okay but the overall presentation and colours from the banner are quite ugly.
Fig 2
(See Fig 2) Within this page there is a mixture of interactivity, imagery and text and the text on the page doesn't look that intimidating but if there was a box that could contain the text, the text wold look more structured within the page. The interactivity is through a visual interactive diagram which is interesting, where you can zoom in on image and text and information would appear, which is a good way to store content without the text on screen being too much.
The colour scheme of the the iBook is very uninspiring and there isn't much going for it, i can tell the person who made this was more focused on the content than the visuals in the background or what it actually looks like, as long as the content was there, which is slightly disappointed.
Fig 3
(See Fig 3) This page adds more text with a somewhat different background image and layout for the content. Here there is a video which users can watch. Even though the text isn't rich, the appearance of it all is very unappealing and unsuccessful. The iBook uses the theme of the same bar thing on each of the pages with the gradient and it isn't really that attractive and makes the overall look of the iBook very basic and less appealing.
Fig 4
(See Fig 4) With this page the background of the cables in the background looks distracting and would leave users less likely to focus on the content because of this issue. The text on the page isn't too text heavy but having a boo for the text could help structure the content and the layout of the iBook a bit better.
Fig 5
(See Fig 5) Here there is slightly more text which is spread out in a way that doesn't make the content look too overwhelming. But something that almost looks out of place is the use of the vacuum cleaner which looks odd and if it has just been placed there randomly, which would make the iBook look less professional and unappealing to read.
Fig 6
Fig 7
(See Fig 6 and 7) Above the two screenshots from the iBook present a couple of quizzes which is a good way to interact the user within the iBook. However there is so much empty and plain white space that this part of the content, even though its interactive with quizzes, the overall theme and design of the iBook is poorly constructed and most most likely not engage the user in this iBook.
Overall there are a few good qualities with this iBook as the text isn't too overwhelming but the design and structure looks very uninspiring and for that reason would most likely leave the user unengaged and less attracted to finding out about physics, despite some of the interactivity.
